The prefix 'xeno' comes from the Greek word 'xenos', meaning the stranger, the outsider, or the alien.

Rebekah Sheldon, a researcher into the queer occult, identifies Xeno as method: its qualities of strangerness, being open to the “outside”, to the wholly unknowable, makes it a perfect site for experimentation. In this case, the site of family is our experiment, the practice of “xeno-kinning” a work of productive resistance to the capitalist unit of the nuclear family.
